The annual Medical Student Dinner traditionally
is held the Sunday evening after the first week of medical school
for the fall semester. This event honors freshmen medical students
embarking on their career in medicine.
Medical school always will hold special memories
for physicians. Because we know that medical school was an important
time in a physician’s life, members enjoy welcoming students.
2011 marks our 35th year to invite member physicians to sponsor
students at our medical student dinner. Corporate sponsorships are
available for the reception at this event.
The 2011 dinner will be Sunday, Aug.
21, at the Doubletree Hotel Dallas Campbell Centre, 8250
N. Central Expy. Students will have just finished their first full
week of class. We anticipate that 2011 will rival 2010 in attendance,
when DCMS hosted 320 physicians, students and guests, plus Peter
Carmel, M.D., then AMA president-elect, who welcomed students to
the family of medicine.
Attendees include the new freshman class at
University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and the practicing
physicians who sponsor them. This dinner is hosted by the DCMS Foundation,
the medical society’s charitable foundation. All contributions
for student meals are tax deductible. If you are unable to attend
the dinner, we encourage you to sponsor a student. The majority
of the incoming freshman class do attend this event (apx. 250 students).
