Political Key Contacts: Tell DCMS who you know.
It's never too early to update the DCMS Key Contact Resource List. A key contact is someone who has a personal or professional relationship with a legislator at the state and/or federal level, and is willing to contact him about DCMS medical issues. A strong key contact program is crucial to get Medicine's opinions in front of lawmakers. When you agree to be a key contact and are asked to contact a legislator, we'll give you all the information you need to get your message across.
Please contact Tracy Casto, DCMS director of public affairs, at 214-948-3622, ext. 227, or tracy@dallas-cms.org, with the following information:
- names of legislators you know
- nature of relationship (friend, campaign supporter, personal physician)
- relationship on a scale of 1-5 (5=very close, 3=casual, and 1=know slightly)
Join TEXPAC to Ensure Texas Medicine’s Voice is Heard
TEXPAC is a physician-driven organization that relies on the active participation of local physicians across the state. The board of directors includes 31 physicians from each of the state’s senatorial districts.TEXPAC’s endorsements are based on recommendations from local physicians and Alliance members, as well as on a candidate’s positions and ability to win.
TEXPAC’s grassroots activities play a key role in the legislative successes of the Texas Medical Association. During the 1997 session, Texas legislators adopted 95% of TMA’s legislative program. Much of that success is attributed to the involvement of physicians and Alliance members in local campaigns. By getting involved, physicians and Alliance members can establish strong working relationships with candidates and educate them on the complex issues in medicine.
TEXPAC assists physicians and Alliance members in these efforts by providing resources such as candidate briefing documents and talking points about important issues. TEXPAC also hosts fund-raisers, sends out endorsement letters, produces direct-mail pieces, coordinates phone banks, and organizes other local activities to help congressional, legislative, and judicial candidates across the state.
One of TEXPAC’s most recognizable efforts is the distribution of slate cards. Since 1988, when it launched the "Clean Slate in ‘88" campaign to restore balance and fairness to the Texas Supreme Court, TEXPAC has distributed millions of slate cards statewide each election cycle to provide voters with a slate of fair and honest judicial candidates.
