MEMBERSHIP
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
If you are a physician and are not a member of the Dallas County Medical Society, we would like to extend an invitation for you to join approximately 80% of your Dallas County colleagues and 30,000 physicians throughout Texas in organized medicine.
To be eligible for membership, individuals must be:
Physicians who are doctors of medicine and/or osteopathy who subscribe to the "Principles of Medical Ethics" of the American Medical Association and who are licensed to practice medicine in Texas.
or
Medical officers of the federal government and teachers in medical schools who are not required to register under the Medical Practice Act of Texas, but who are bona fide residents of Texas.
or
House staff physicians who, in Dallas County, are serving in training programs approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and who are licensed by or who hold institutional permits from the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners.
or
A full-time student pursuing a course of study in a medical school in Dallas County leading to the degree of doctor of medicine and/or osteopathy recognized by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners.
APPLICATION REQUEST
Would you like more information on becoming a member? To request an application, e-mail your application request to donna@dallas-cms.org. In your request, please include NAME, ADDRESS, DAYTIME TELEPHONE NUMBER, LAST YEAR OF MEDICAL TRAINING, and the answer YES or NO to "Are you currently a member of another medical society?" We will promptly send you an application! You may also APPLY ONLINE via the Texas Medical Association website.
MEMBER CATEGORIES & 2008 DUES AMOUNTS
PLEASE NOTE: Full-year dues are accepted with applications submitted from October through April. Half-year dues amounts apply to applications submitted May through September. In Texas, the county medical society and Texas Medical Association (TMA) dues are conjoint; you cannot join either independently. American Medical Association (AMA) dues are recommended but not required.
ACTIVE: Physicians who are actively practicing medicine and have been for 3 or more years. Full-year dues are $1190 ($305 for DCMS, $485 for TMA, and $420 for AMA). Half-year dues are $595 ($152.50 for DCMS, $232.50 for TMA, and $210 for AMA).
SECOND YEAR IN PRACTICE: Physicians who completed training in 2006. Full-year dues are $1085 ($305 for DCMS, $485 for TMA, and $315 for AMA). The AMA portion of your dues reflects a 25% discount for your second year in practice. Half-year dues are $542.50 ($152.50 for DCMS, $232.50 for TMA, and $157.50 for AMA).
FIRST YEAR IN PRACTICE: Physicians who completed training in 2007 or will complete training in 2008. Full year dues are $385 ($152.50 for DCMS, $232.50 for TMA, and $210 for AMA). This amount reflects a 50% discount in dues for your first year in practice. Half-year dues are $192.50 ($76.25 for DCMS, $116.25 for TMA, and $105 for AMA).
RESIDENT/FELLOW: Physicians who are in an approved resident or fellowship training program. Full-year dues are $75 ($10 for DCMS, $20 for TMA, and $45 for AMA). Half-year dues are $42.50 ($10 for DCMS, $10 for TMA, and $22.50 for AMA).
Other member categories are MILITARY, LEAVE OF ABSENCE, HONORARY, LIFE, and RETIRED. If you believe you may qualify for any of these types or would like more information about them, please contact the membership department at 214-413-1430 or e-mail your request to donna@dallas-cms.org.
