List of Past President Pages ![]()
As is evident from this photo, Warren Lichliter, MD, has been a part of Dallas County Medicine for many years.
Warren Eugene Lichliter was born on Jan 24, 1952, in Murphysboro, Ill, where his fathers family had a farm.
His father also was employed by Woolworths, and this job caused the family to move every time he got promoted.
Dr Lichliter attended Lindbergh High School in St Louis through his junior year, but graduated from Whitehaven High School in Memphis, in 1970. He received a full music scholarship to the University of Tennessee, where he received a BA with high honors in Science/Pre-Med in 1974. However, Dr Lichliter never could afford his own tuba, as they cost more than a VW at the time, so, he never played again after college.
Woolworths transferred Dr Lichliters father one last time to Dallas. This allowed Dr Lichliter to receive in-state tuition at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, and he graduated with honors in 1978.
During an externship at the University of Texas at Austin, he met Carol, and they were married in 1979.
Dr Lichliter completed his general surgery residency in 1983 and his colon and rectal surgery residency in 1984, both at Baylor University Medical Center.
Warren and Carol Lichliter have four childrentwo boys and two girls.
Gary, 22, is a senior majoring in biology and business at the University of Texas at Dallas, and hopes to attend UT Southwestern Medical School.
Chris, 20, attends Indiana University, majoring in Russian, German, and international business.
Adrienne, 17, is a junior at Bishop Lynch High School, and enjoys running and ballet.
Abigail, 14, is a freshman at Hockaday this year. She participates in lacrosse, field hockey, choir, and ballet.
Dr Lichliter had two brothers and one sister. His brother, Garry, died of cancer at age 30. Dr Lichliters twin brother, Wayne, practices dentistry in Germantown, right outside Memphis. His sister, Karen Murphy, lives just north of Austin in Round Rock.
Although his students like to call him Dr Late-nighter, Dr Lichliter has received many other distinguished titles. He is chief of the Colon & Rectal Surgery Department and program director of the Colon & Rectal Surgical Residency at Baylor University Medical Center. He also is the associate director of the Surgical Education Department of General Surgery at Baylor and clinical assistant professor of surgery at UT Southwestern. Dr Lichliter was president of the medical staff in 1997 and chairman of the medical board in 1998 for Baylor. He also was awarded the Resident Teaching Award for the outstanding Teaching Staff of the Year in 1990, 1995, and 1999.
Dr Lichliter has been a member of Dallas County Medical Society since 1984 and a DCMS board member since 2000.
DCMS is grateful for Dr Lichliters past contributions, and we look forward to his leadership this year.
